Iowa is taking on Texas Tech in the Las Vegas Invitational. Texas Tech won by a score of 96-66, over Long Island-Brooklyn in its most recent game, while Iowa won 85-59 against Cal Poly in their last game.

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS

The Red Raiders are averaging 87 points per game which is ranked #9 the NCAA while shooting 50% from the field which is ranked #19 and 43% from 3 which is ranked #6 in the NCAA.  On defense, the Red Raiders are only giving up  60 points per game with 37% field goal shooting and are forcing 17 turnovers per game with eight steals and three blocks.   Texas Tech has not faced much competition yet this year these numbers might not be the same against a tough Iowa squad.

All of Texas Tech’s starters are averaging in double figures led by 6-4 freshman guard Jahmi’us Ramsey who leads the Big 12 in scoring with a 19.4 average after pouring in a career-high 27 points against the Sharks, including five 3-pointers, to go along with six rebounds. Senior forward TJ Holyfield and junior guard David Moretti, the team’s lone returning starter, are tied for second in scoring with 13.8 averages while guards Terrence Shannon and Kyler Edwards are both averaging 10 points.

IOWA HAWKEYES

The Hawkeyes are averaging 84 points per game on offense and allowing 70 points per game on defense. The Hawkeyes are shooting 46% from the field and 33% from three-point land averaging 7 threes per game.  However, the Hawkeyes allow 44% field goal shooting and 33% from 3-point which is where the Raiders perform their best. The Hawkeyes averaged 12 offensive rebounds per game and are forcing 14 turnovers per game with seven steals and four blocks on defense.

Senior guard Jordan Bohannon, who averaged 11.6 points while also leading the team in assists last season but underwent hip surgery in May, is expected to play Thursday after sitting out Sunday’s win.  Luke Garza, a 6-11 junior center, is averaging a double-double, leading the Big Ten in scoring (22.2) and ranking third in rebounding (10.2) while also shooting 58.3 percent from 3-point range.

MATCHUP SUMMARY

The Hawkeyes have a chance to win this game outright given their offensive production but Texas Tech strives to play great defense if the Red Raiders can contain the Hawkeyes offense they will have a chance to cover the spread but the Hawkeyes 84 points per game which is the #21 ranked offense, that is highly questionable. This should be a high scoring competition.
