In 7 career World Series starts Justin Verlander is 0-6 with a 5.68 ERA. Verlander will make his 8th World Series start on Friday when the Astros face the visiting Philadelphia Phillies for Game 1. The Astros won both series openers in the American League Division Series and AL Championship Series despite mixed results from Verlander. He allowed 6 runs on 10 hits over 4 innings in the Astros’ 8-7 walk-off victory over the Seattle Mariners and then he pitched well against the New York Yankees by recording 11 strikeouts over 6 innings. Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (2-1, 3.12 ERA this postseason) will get the start for the Phillies against Verlander (1-0, 6.30 this postseason). Nola was the pitcher when Philadelphia defeated the Astros 3-0 on Oct. 3, a victory that gave the Phillies’ first postseason berth in 11 years. Nola limited the Astros to 2 hits while recording 9 strikeouts and no walks over 6 2/3 innings. The Phillies have hit 16 home runs this postseason, leading all teams but Houston is not far behind at 12 while playing just 7 games to Philadelphia’s 11.

The Phillies are 2-7 in their last 9 interleague games.

The Phillies are 1-4 in their last 5 World Series games.

The Phillies are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Houston.

The Astros are 7-0 in their last 7 playoff games.

9:00 PM Utah Jazz @ Denver Nuggets

The Jazz pulled off a big win over the Denver Nuggets when the two teams met in their season opener on Oct. 19. Since that 123-102 victory Utah has gone on to win 3 of their next 4 games. Meanwhile, Denver has had a mediocre beginning of the season. Sure, the Nuggets picked up a nice 128-123 win at Golden State a week ago, but they’ve also been blown out by the Portland Blazers 135-110 on Monday. The Nuggets looked less confused against the winless Los Angeles Lakers during a 110-99 win Wednesday night in Denver when Jokic tallied 31 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals, and the Nuggets broke the game open by outscoring LeBron James and the Lakers 32-17 in the third quarter. The Jazz avenged their only loss of the season by beating Houston 109-101 two nights after losing to the Rockets on the road. Lauri Markkanen continued to dominate for Utah after being traded to the Jazz from Cleveland in the offseason. Markkanen scored 24 points with 9 rebounds. Jordan Clarkson, the former NBA Sixth Man of the Year, added 20 points with 5 three’s. Markkanen has been Utah’s leading scorer this season despite struggling from 3-point range, where he’s shooting just 24% but he hit 10 of 15 shots Wednesday night. The Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr., who had 15 points and seven boards in the first game against Utah, has missed time with a spine injury.

🏀The Jazz are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games playing on 1 days rest.

🏀The Jazz are 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 Friday games.

🏀The Jazz are 16-36-3 ATS in their last 55 games following a ATS loss.

🏀The Under is 18-7 in the last 25 meetings in Denver.

The Bookie: Nuggets -8
